first post

well, both "san pedro" and "pedro" were taken on blogger, so we had to use "la harbor" for this brand-spankin' new blog about life in san pedro. (lord help us.) the person who took the san pedro name never really got blogging in the first place. they set it up back in 2003, posting no more than a couple test entries.

first thing's first: last night while driving back from home depot, i thought i saw swamp thing in the doorway of the maritime museum on harbor blvd. i told jeepers, "oh my god! there's a 7-foot monster in the window at the museum!" jeepers, thinking it could have very well been sasquatch , quickly turned the car around so we could have a closer look. alas, it was only a diving suit from the olden days (which look an awful lot like space suits) placed up against the window and dimly lit up. it was even creepy up close.

dissappointed it wasn't alive, we turned back around, when who or what should cross our path? none other than a short, 400-pound man in a tan velour jogging suit! what the hell? and why was he there? he was just walking around the train tracks with his girlfriend. only in san pedro.

That diving suit has been creeping out kids and adults for years. It belongs to the Piledrivers Union and they move it around to various exhibition spots. I was first crept out by it at the Cabrillo Aquarium as a child, and later I had to install it into an exhbit at Angels Gate, where it creeped me out for 6 straight weeks. There is something about it that is very Scooby Doo bad guy.
