Thar's a big hole in the ground
Oh Boy! There is a lot of development in San Pedro right now. There are no less than 3 big projects starting up within a block of Walled City, and I could name at least a half dozen sizeable projects going on without even beginning to touch on the waterfront redefining Bridge to Breakwater project.
This here hole in the ground was a vacant lot for almost 22 years, affectionately known as the H2 Lot. Ground was broken on at least three other projects at this site, most recently a multiplex theatre project in the late 90's, none of which went beyond the planning phase. But it looks like they are actually going to go through with it this time.
This project will eventually give birth to 116 lofts and ground floor retail, which the developers envision chock full of happy nuppies (that's what the kids are calling the new yuppies), who will displace all of us local scum. Or maybe gentrification isn't as bad as we all believe it to be?

oh, well, if USAToday says gentrification is good, who am i to argue...
Check out what the developer-friendly Urban Land Institute has to say about all these hot, happenin' developments in San Pedro. Apparently the time is ripe for owners of rent-controlled apartments to go condo and displace all of us nasty, dirt-under-the-fingernails renter types, once and for all. It'll be totally cool and hip and artistic and unaffordable, just like Manhattan!
ooh, i just love living in a place that is "ripe for development opportunities." it gives me a boner.
now i just have to figure out where to live after the Starbucks and Jetta crowd takes over.
and when did "intents and purposes" become "intensive purposes"? Freudian slip there, ace...
