BBQ + Resin = Fun

On Saturday, I had the opportunity to attend a BBQ & resin pour at local artist Eric Johnson's studio. This 16 foot high DNA inspired monster is going to be on display at the Armory Center for the Arts, starting June 25, in a show called Watson's Wand. After 5 pours of resin it went from clear to opaque grey pearlescent.

Eric tackles visual interpretations of scientific concepts (binary stars, DNA strands, black holes...) in his work. With skeletons that resemble the interior of aircraft wings, Eric's work references the power, strength and engineered grace of the industrial age, while the shapes that he constructs echo the wildest mathematical tricks of gravity and space-time. In other words, he's a classic man, fascinated by the boundaries of his physical universe.
