mysterious beachfront Pedro homes
about five years ago i noticed the houses below Paseo Del Mar that are built right on the rocky coastline. i've always wondered what the deal was with those places - how they were approved by the coastal commission for one thing - and who the hell would want to live at the bottom of a huge flight of stairs for another (yeah, i know, it's right on the water --- still, that's quite a schlep every time you want to go anywhere).
does anyone who reads this know anyone who lives down there, or have you ever been in one of them? there's certainly nothing else like them in the area.

So what's the price tag on one of these Tsunami catchers? I'm going to have to get on down there and scope them out.
You'd better love stairs if you're gonna live there. I mean really, really love stairs.
I think my dad used to hang out at one of those houses in the late sixties or early seventies when he was a casual marine clerk. I'll ask him if he remembers any of the details about who built/owned/owns those houses next time I see him.
I can answer one of your questions for sure, though: whoever built the house my dad used to visit didn't have to go through the Coastal Commission, because the Commission wasn't established until 1972.
ah, i see. well i'm surprised the commission hasn't found a way to retroactively torture those people somehow. or maybe they have...
