Pour One Out For Madame Wong
I know that neither of her landmark clubs were in Pedro, or even the South Bay, but every local punk should bow their heads to Esther Wong, Godmother of Punk in Los Angeles. Local bands like the Minutemen, Black Flag, Saccharine Trust and a host of others played Madame Wong's and Madame Wong's West back in the day, and her role in providing a safe haven for punk and new wave to grow in Los Angeles can't be understated.
