Goats are here!
I love goats - not in that way, but I think they're just the most fun barnyard animals ever. There's been talk about them coming to Peck Park and chomping down on the overgrowth, even talk about having a herd live there year round. Well, the year round part hasn't happened yet, but according to today's Breeze, they're here and they will be a chewin' and a chompin' in the Hernandez Ranch portion of Peck park. The goats will be here for as long as it takes to clear the brush, about 2-4 weeks, so there's plenty of time to go and take a peek at the visiting herd.

This is not so outlandish an idea as it seems. For a while there in the late eighties, there were sheep in the vacant lot on Gaffey and Shepard right across from Pt. Fermin Park. They served the same purpose, grazing on weeds and keeping the lot from becoming overgrown. The sheep never hurt anybody, and there were no reported instances of rogue Scotsmen sneaking into the pen at night to spend quality time with them.
goats? cool. when is the area going to go wireless? and what about a subway/rail system? if Santa Monica is getting a multi-billion dollar expansion of the red line, where is the south bay's extension of the green line?
There were also goats in the vacant lot formerly occupied by a hospital accross from Ft MacArthur (now apartments and condos).

Santa Monica isn't getting a multi-billion dollar extension of the Red Line; the entire metropolitan Los Angeles area is getting it. Everybody benefits.
But I get your point. Pedro gets royally screwed when it comes to public transit.
An extension of the green line wouldn't help much, though. For the most part, it doesn't go anywhere that people here are likely to need to go. LAX is an obvious exception...but then, the Green Line doesn't really go there, either.
What we really need is a line directly between here and downtown LA, for the benefit of commuters, Pedrans who want to enjoy the rest of the city without driving, LAists who want to visit our bitchen new Waterfront Public Gathering Place (can I copyright that name?), and cruise ship passengers who want to visit Hollywood etc. without being herded onto tour buses.
Failing that, would it kill MTA to give us a 445 bus that runs more often than once an hour?
