This would sell like hotcakes in Pedro
The boys over at BoingBoing shared this prototype product in amidst their daily postings, a powerstrip in the shape of a container ship. Designer Jim Termeer describes his concept as it addresses the overlooked reality of our relationship with China -Designed to accomodate power adapters that populate but do not fit well into our living spaces, this powerstrip also makes apparent the infrastructure behind all those powercords.
Most of the electronic devices in use everyday are manufactured in in a particular province in China and are delivered by containership. The biggest of these vessels can hold up to 9,000 40ft containers and is too massive for the Panama Canal. Paradoxically, they frequently return to China empty- there is nothing to bring back.
People generally do not realize the extreme scale of the infrastucture needed when a single geographic area becomes the primary source, even for things that most people see as insignificant.
This ship powers our electronic devices with their cords in it's wake.

u guys need to write an update on the ponte vista task force's 1st meeting. one of the members didn't even show, and the whole room was filled with bisno's people.
the guy missing from the event was jack baric.
more SP didn't even show up to the event.
janice hahn ran outta that room so fast after her opening comments it was great.
there've been other developments too.
What other developments? I'm starting a "what's up with Ponte Vista" Bisno post, so folks can chime in.
well, for one thing - the former Hahn staffer who now works for Bisno has a daughter that was recently hired at Random Lengths News.
AND the Ponte Vista people apparently lectured some Breeze reporters about their coverage (which they thought has been mostly negative) recently.
Oh, I almost forgot. the LAUSD takeover is going to have a huge impact on Bisno's battle with the school district. It is highly plausible that he is much better off with Villaraigosa pulling the strings over at LAUSD because now he can just talk to him about that new high school they want to build.
