San Pedro's most successful development project

There was a great profile in Saturday's MORE of the Channel Street Skatepark and Andy Harris, the local hero who made it happen. Channel Street wouldn't have come together without the support of hundreds of folks, but Andy is the glue. It's my favourite development project, because it not only filled a much needed gap in our local infrastructure, but it is wholly homegrown and Pedro to the core.


The skatepark is always doing fundraisers, and soon you'll be able to pick up a set of kickass Channel St. Wheels from Spitfire (pictured above) - all profits from the wheels go to support the skatepark. You better buy them when they come out - you won't be able to maintain your "Real San Pedran" status unless you've got an unopened set of these resting on a shelf next to your copy of Thin Ice on the Gridiron.

This is also an excuse to pimp Andy's website, El Beardo's Dung Heap, where also has a blog, the Blog of Dung. He's been slacking on the updates, but there's a ton of both skating shots (lots of pool shots!) and shots he takes at work on the docks (when Andy's not skating or building the skatepark, he's a teacher, photographer and casual longshoreman), which are worth a look at if you haven't seen his page before.
