More gunshots than usual this year?

I've been too sick to really get all hopped up about about New Years (no one wants to be in the water with the coughing, nose blowing Polar Bear), but did anyone besides me notice an upswing in shooting on New Year's Eve? Someone a few blocks from our house unloaded what sounded like a twelve shot clip from a low caliber pistol, took a break to reload and then went at it again. This of course in addition to the usual random gunfire and fireworks that go down around midnight. The Breeze article wrapping up New Years makes some mention of gunfire, but the police quoted seem to have a "boys will be boys" attitude towards it.
