Passings
San Pedro has lost two favourite sons, one at the beginning of a promising life and one at the end of an enviable one.
USC kicker Mario Danelo, son of former NY Giants kicker Joe Danelo, who today works as a longshoreman, was found at the bottom of Point Fermin. Mario played for San Pedro High before playing at USC. In 2006 he lead the team in scoring and contributed two field goals to their recent victory over Michigan at the Rose Bowl. It's unknown at the moment if it was accident or suicide - I'd like to say that it's an easy place to slip and come to an unfortunate end, and that our thoughts are with his family.
There's a fair amount of coverage, both web and print on this, so I'm just listing the links below.

Joseph Mardesich Jr. passed away on Thursday, at the age of 85, following a head injury suffered the week before. Joe was born in 1921, played high school football, fought in WWII and went on to achieve success following his father into the canning industry. Joe's daughter Stephanie has been plugging away at her pet project, the Harbor International Film Festival for several years now. Joe was also a Polar Bear, and the Breeze obituary contains this great remembrance from John Olguin - "He was like a regular fish."
