For the Container Lovers
Former San Pedran, Edith Abeyta, is in the Netherlands right now, in the midst of a three month artists' residency. She spotted the above student housing made from shipping containers while visiting Amsterdam. More photos and some chatter from Edith on her website.

When we were all quite young, didn't we all find it facinating and very fun to play in big boxes?
There are so many empty containers in our area, and too many homeless folks, that I think we can get some people together and find some housing for some needy individuals and families.
It may not look pretty, but if it can provide shelter for many immigrants fleeing thier oppressive country to try and find a better life here, why can't we use some moderately remodeled containers to provide homes for our own homeless people on this side of the Pacific?

I've seen lots of container houses plunked down in the middle of nowhere throughout Alaska, usually with a window or two and fireplace smoke coming out of a little chimney pipe. Sometimes that's the permanent home or vacation spot, other times a larger traditional house is being built on-site.
